The show interviews Diane Kincaid, Information Specialist for the American Probation and Parole Association addressing Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Week from July 19 to July 25. Diane addresses the contributions of community supervision staff and offers comprehensive materials to celebrate the week on the APPA website at www.appa-net.org. The show interviews William (Bill) Burrell. For 19 years, Bill served as Chief of Adult Probation Services for the New Jersey Court System. Bill was a member of the faculty at the Department of Criminal Justice at Temple University. He is the Editor for Perspectives, the journal of the American Probation and Parole Association where he serves as a member of the Board of Directors. Bill also serves as a member of the editorial board of Community Corrections Report

This is the second of a series of programs recorded during the summer of 2009 focusing on evidence-based practices or “what works.” It’s the first with Bill Burrell.

The program focuses on the perceptions of the practitioner community as to research on what works.

The show interviews Neil Goodloe, former Chief Probation Officer for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Neil provides an account of his effort to introduce evidence based practices into his district when he became Chief Probation Officer. Neil is retired and now works as a trainer and consultant for the North Pointe Institute for Public Management.

90 Percent of Offenders Employed Upon Release-DC Public Safety

The show interviews Stefan LoBuglio, Chief of the Prerelease and Reentry Services Division for the Montgomery County Department of Corrections in Maryland and Anne Morrison Piehl, a Professor at Rutgers University who, in conjunction with the Manhattan Institute, published “Preparing Prisoners for Employment-the Power of Small Rewards.” The research indicates that 90 percent of offenders leaving the Montgomery County system were employed upon release.

An Interview With Women Offenders–DC Public Safety

The show interviews Supervisory Community Supervision Officer Dr. Willa Butler and three female offenders currently under the supervision of the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency in Washington, D.C. The offenders present anonymously. They discuss their crimes, drug addictions, children, histories of child abuse, relationships with men and their lives up to this point.
