<p>The Mayor&#8217;s Office on Cable Television (MOCT) created a commercial for the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency&#8217;s &#8220;DC Public Safety&#8221; television series in the summer of 2011. It was distributed to 60 cable outlets. The DC Mayor&#8217;s Office of Cable TV (MOCT) films &#8220;DC Public Safety&#8221; for the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency.</p>
<p>&#8220;DC Public Safety&#8221; social media includes television, radio, a blog and transcripts at <a href="http://media.csosa.gov/">http://media.csosa.gov</a>.  &#8220;DC Public Safety&#8221; creates content on crime and the criminal justice system with a national and international audience.  Started over  five years ago,  &#8221;DC Public Safety&#8221; was one of the first social media efforts within federal government.</p>
<p>We are highly ranked by Google and other search engines for dozens of key public safety terms with many consistently ranked in the top three. We obtain 70,000 page views a month. These numbers do not include our showings on YouTube and related video services. We have approximately 30 justice-government websites who offer our material via RSS feed. Our television network offers our shows approximately 600 times a year.</p>
<p>&#8220;DC Public Safety&#8221; has won numerous awards from national and regional organizations and television outlets.</p>
<p>&#8220;DC Public Safety&#8221; is a product of the Office of Legislative, Intergovernmental and Public Affairs of the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency, supervised by Associate Director Cedric Hendricks. The host is Leonard Sipes. The producer is Timothy Barnes.</p>

<p>“Women Offenders” features discussions with a policy maker within the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency and the Director of Our Place D.C. (one of the most comprehensive programs for women offenders in the country). The second half features a CSOSA employee who runs groups for women offenders and a participant currently under CSOSA supervision.</p>
<p>Between 2007 and 2010, the number of women on CSOSA’S daily caseload increased eight percent. Participants have higher rates of involvement in substance abuse, mental health issues and histories of sexual victimization. Approximately 50 percent of female offenders report having been evaluated, diagnosed or treated for mental health issues.</p>
<p>CSOSA is currently reorganizing operations to better supervise and provide programs for female offenders. Teams of Community Supervision Officers (know elsewhere as parole and probation agents) have received gender specific training. Treatment groups for women offenders are expanding. A new day reporting center has been created. Partnerships with groups such as Our Place D.C. have been expanded.</p>
<p>The production attempts to describe the increase of females under CSOSA supervision (and throughout the nation) and the steps employed to address the issue.</p>
<p>CSOSA is also reorganizing agency operations to better supervise high-risk offenders.</p>

<p>The Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency is a federal, executive branch entity providing parole and probation services to Washington, D.C. CSOSA prides itself in implementing state-of-the-art supervision, treatment and technology services.</p>
<p>SMART is the agency&#8217;s data tracking system. SMART-STAT analyzes data to allow executives, middle management and line staff to make the best decisions to protect public safety and provide needed treatment services.</p>
<p>SMART-STAT sessions bring all parties to the table (including human resources, budget, and general counsel in addition to supervision operations) with a uniform understanding of the data to make decisions. All levels of the organization from line staff to senior management are held accountable for results.</p>
<p>SMART and SMART-STAT and the use of additional CSOSA technologies (GPS tracking, drug testing, employment, treatment, educational data and more) resulted in the production of this video by SAS, a contractor providing business intelligence software. CSOSA uses SAS software to manage and analyze data. CSOSA does not and cannot endorse any commercial product.</p>
