Are there any new updates since this was written? We have a nonprofit organization in New York that specializes in helping the ex-incarcerated return to the workforce. There is always a struggle in reentry, but we'd like to help as well so that we can perhaps bring new light into the futures of these individuals and combat the recidivism rate in America. Any information would be wonderful!

I applaud any reentry\transition program for ex-offenders to enter the community from which they came.

As an emergency manager and focusing on the 'whole community' approach with every member of the community contributing to the speedy recovery from a disaster (man-made or natural). We are pursuing contributing a plan of reentry\transition of ex-offenders by entering the FEMA EMI Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program (online, and hands-on) and returning to the community to work with their TIPS, any faith-based, non-profit or other organizations to work with the community.

The Black Emergency Management Association will be submitting this plan to its 'Community Participation' members to consider for ensuring that the 'whole community' approach utilizes all members of the community (disabled, senior citizens, ex-offenders, etc.) for the community recovery.

Including these individuals will ensure that they return and are welcomed by the community with skills that can be used within the community. Not just African-American communities, but all communities that ex-offenders will be returning to.

Sincerely,

Charles D. Sharp
Emergency Manager
Senior Advisor
Black Emergency Managers Association

There are so many of us out here now, it is time to start organizing, sharing success stories and getting society to realize that we are human, have made mistakes and quite frankly not much different than them except for the getting caught part in a lot of cases. and maybe people will start caring. more importantly, legislation needs to get involved with a national Act to make felons covered under the human rights laws and discrimination laws. otherwise, there is no way for people to make it. feel free to email me felonsunite@yahoo

DC is a safe haven for criminals. As long as he's not a sex offender or a pedophile. They don't care what they do.
They don't put them maniacs on GPS Cause they don't care!
You think children are the only one's who wants to be safe.

DC is a safe haven for criminals. As long as he's not a rapist. They disregard all the other vicious crimes that are going on out there everyday. That is why crime is on the rise. They don't put them on GPS

Returning from Prison to Washington DC is just a ploy to getting re-arrested.That's how they do. And if you're a sex offender. They are gonna harrass you, they are gonna take away all of your Constitutional Rights, as a U.S. citizen. And treat you like a dog. Even after you done been out for 10 years or more. With a good job, education, etc. And now, they are gonna insists that all sex offenders must wear an ankle bracelet, as if he's a fuck up.
Sex Offenders are not the only ones committing crimes in this ole sorry Country.
And while they are going hard against the sex offender, who basically has the mind of a child. The more dangerous criminals are looked at as a 5 star criminal, as long as he's not a sex offender. You understand what I'm saying? (i.e. murderers, robbers, stick up boys, home invasions, and serial killings) People who kill and torture just for the fun of it. Without mentioning a word of it, about them living in your neighborhood. You call that safe? Or Mafia offenders who will mail body parts of an victum to his own mother.
That's called the party crashers. And the U.S. have given them the self esteem to feeling like that. Cause they know your scared ass, ain't gonna discriminate against them like you would a sex offender. Scared them vicious criminal and thugs will retaliate. But with a sex offender or pedophile, you take advantage of them. Cause you know they've got a mental problem, and are more than likely not gonna do nothing, but deal with it. Scared say you scared. You dumb ass lawmakers.

I think there should be programs that help prisoners to adapt to getting out of jail. I think there's reason and some correlation to why a lot of people who have been to prison, ends up going back.
